How to Install TWRP Recovery using Odin on Samsung devices

Samsung Odin is a software for windows which allows the users to flash stock ROM on Samsung Galaxy devices. The tool was originally intended to be used by Samsung service center employees for flashing stock ROM on their customer devices. But, thanks to the internet, it is now available for all the users. The good thing is, Samsung Odin tool is capable of more than just flashing stock ROM on the Samsung device. We are going to make use of the Odin tool to install TWRP recovery on Samsung devices.

TWRP Recovery is a custom recovery which acts as an alternative to the stock recovery which comes pre-installed with Samsung galaxy devices. TWRP recovery comes with a lot of more advanced options and features which allows the users to take complete control of their devices. For example, you can flash root packages and custom ROMs with this tool.

How to Flash TWRP recovery using Odin

Make sure to download the TWRP recovery only in .tar format. The Odin tool only accepts TWRP files in .tar format.

  1. Download the latest version of Odin from this link: Odin Tool Download
  2. Once you have downloaded, you will get a zip file. Extract the zip file and then you will get the Odin tool in .exe format.
  3. Make sure you have the TWRP recovery for your device ready with you.
  4. Enable OEM Unlock:
    1. Go to Settings > About phone > and tap Build number seven times to enable Developer options.
    2. Go back to main Settings > Developer options.
    3. Under Developer options, look for Enable OEM unlock toggle and enable the same.
  5. Boot your Samsung Galaxy device into Download Mode:
    1. Switch off your device.
    2. Press and hold “Home + Power + Volume down” buttons for a few seconds until you see a warning screen.
    3. Press Volume Up on the warning screen to accept it and boot into Download mode.

  6. In your PC, double click on the Odin exe file to open the same.

  8. Next, click on the AP tab on the Odin tool and select the TWRP recovery .tar file that you downloaded for your device.
    └ Note: DO NOT change any other options in this screen.

  10. Done!

Your device will automatically reboot when the flashing process is successfully completed. You can now disconnect your device from your PC.

How to boot into TWRP recovery on a Samsung Galaxy device

  1. Switch off your device.
  2. Press and hold the “Home + Power + Volume Up” buttons at the same time for a few seconds until you see your device’s logo on-screen. Release the keys once you see it. Your device will boot into TWRP recovery.
