If you are someone who was a part of Apple’s ecosystem and have suddenly decided to move on to Android, there is a greater possibility that you are going to miss Apple’s iMessage. Today, we will tell you how you can enjoy iMessage on Android devices. Read ahead to know more about iMessage for Android.
iMessage is Apple’s instant messaging service. It debuted on June 2011 and can be run on iOS, MacOS, and WatchOS. iMessages are fundamentally different than text messages because they use mobile data to send messages, not the text messaging plan you purchase through your wireless carrier.
iMessage for Android: weMessage
iMessage is the glue that keeps people stuck to their iPhones and Macs. But recently I found an app on the Google Play Store that can fit the vacancy created in your life due to your decision of opting for an Android device. This app is known as weMessage and it is developed by Communitext. It was made available for Android users on the Google Play Store in December last year. Let’s discuss how it works.
According to its developers, weMessage is composed of two pieces of software: the Android app itself and a messaging server that is called the weServer. The weServer is the bridge between your Mac computer and your Android device. weServer is a messaging server that will relay iMessages to and from your Android device. In order to start sending and receiving iMessages, you will need to install the weServer on a computer running macOS, whether it is an iMac, Macbook, Mac Mini, or a Mac Pro. The reason you will need an Apple computer in order to use the weMessage ecosystem is that the iMessages need to be sent through an Apple device in order to be delivered. By running the weServer on a Mac, you have the assurance that your messages will reach the person you are texting.
weMessage supports all of iMessage’s major features, including direct messages, group chats, attachments, the ability to add and remove people from chats, the ability to rename and leave chats, and more as claimed by Roman Scott, the brain behind this innovation.
Requirements to run weMessage
- an iMessage account.
- A MacOS Computer running Yosemite (10.10) or Higher
- An Android Device Running Lollipop (5.0) or Higher
- Java 7 or Higher
The weMessage app seems to be a pretty solid workaround that lets Android smartphone users chat and text using iMessage. It’s developer Roman Scott says that the app is completely safe as they didn’t use reverse engineering, nor did they knowingly engage in any malicious activity.
While this appears to be a solid attempt at using iMessages to an Android device, this may be pulled down by Apple in future. Similar apps and methods of forwarding iMessages to Android devices have popped up in the past, but have been shut down by Apple.
