How to Get Stock Android Look on Galaxy S9/S9+

Not everyone is a fan of Samsung’s version of Android, even though they love the hardware. In this guide, we will tell you how you can get the stock Android look and feel on Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are the latest and greatest from the house of Samsung. The devices were officially unveiled a few months ago. While the Galaxy S9 is an absolutely great device, there is nothing new or exciting about it. Except for a very, very few minor things, it is the same as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

If you are a fan of Samsung devices but not very fond of their software, then this is the perfect guide for you. Fortunately, we can at least change (or fix?) how the UI looks. In this guide, we will tell you how you can get the stock Android look on your Galaxy S9.

Galaxy S9 Stock Android Theme

Over the years, a lot has been debated about Samsung’s version of Android. It used to be called as TouchWiz and now it is called as Samsung Experience. I used to own a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I absolutely loved it, initially. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3 felt more colorful and flashy when compared to the Nexus’ plain stock Android look. And boy, was I wrong.

There were a suffocating amount of customization options in there and most of them will not be used by most users. That and the fact that UI got extremely slow with every passing day made me hate the UI, TouchWiz. Now, I am happy Galaxy Note 8 users. I can certainly say that Samsung has come a long way in terms of software but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

If you are like me and love how stock Android looks, then we might be able to fix that looks part.

How to Make the Galaxy S9 Software Look like Stock Android

We are going to make use of a native Samsung theme and a bunch of apps to achieve this.

Theme

Props to Samsung for building in a great Theme Engine. There are a lot of great themes for Galaxy S9 available on the Samsung Theme Store. We are particularly going to make use of a theme called Pixelize for achieving the stock Android look.

Phone/Dialer

The theme which you install above certainly changes the way the dialer app looks. But, if you want to take it up a notch, get the Google Dialer immediately! You can download the modified Google Dialer APK which can be installed on your Galaxy S9:

File Manager

The stock File Manager that ships with the Galaxy S9 is pretty decent. But, again, it does not quite follow the material design guidelines which is the essence of stock Android. You can download the MiXplorer File Manager which is has a great design, a lot of features. And the best thing is, it is free.

Messages

There are many good Android messaging apps available for download in the Google Play Store. But we recommend Textra. Textra has been in the game for quite a while now and has gained quite a bit of fan following over the years. The app is feature rich and looks wonderful.

Galaxy S9 Stock Android Experience

I still wish Samsung offered two different variants of all their devices. One with stock Android and another with their own version of Android. So that people who like vanilla Android and Samsung hardware can finally make a peaceful buying decision!
