Missing the Always on Display for OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro? In this guide, learn how to get Pixel styled Always on Display on OnePlus devices.

Always on display is one of the most famous features which was introduced by Samsung a couple of years ago. The always on display received quite a bit of fan love over the past years. Ever since it was introduced by Samsung, several other manufacturers have picked up and used that technology on their devices as well.

One of the main advantages of the always on display is that it lets the user get a quick update about the type of notifications, time and what is the music track currently playing etc. At the same time, there are also downsides to this. The number one problem is the battery drain – even though it may not consume much power, it still comes a little. The second one is the screen burn-in issue. Note that Always on display is only recommended on devices with AMOLED panels as they consume less energy as compared to LCD displays.

Even though OnePlus devices, including but on limited to OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7, come with an AMOLED Panel, the manufacturer has long refused to implement the Always on Display tech on their devices. The reason being cited in the forums is the problem of battery drain. Well, if you are not too concerned about the battery drain (which is not much, really), then you can follow the below method to implement always on display on OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7.

It is important to note here that the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. When you opt to use Always on Display by following the below guide, it means that the animation light for fingerprint scanner will always be visible. This means that there is a potential for screen burn-in problem to occur. But the good thing is, with little tinkering around, you can the color of the fingerprint animation in lockscreen to all black with a substratum module.

Step 1. Install Xposed Module

But don’t worry, there are two more versions; one which displays the clock in 12-hour format with AM/PM and another without the AM/PM indicator. You can download the one you like from the links below:

  1. Depending on what you have, open the appropriate Xposed app.
  2. Tap on the top left corner menu.
  3. Tap on ‘Modules’.

Step 3. Configure Always on Display

When you device reboot, look for the OPAodMod app installed on your phone. You should be able to find in the app drawer like the rest of the apps. Please note that most of this app is in Chinese and you may not be able to tweak pretty much any of the settings (unless you know Chinese, of course). But the good thing it, the default settings are pretty close to Always on Displays found on Google Pixel devices which are pretty good by themselves.
